TUTU NANA

Bio

Based in São Paulo, Tutu Naná was born from the meeting point between the cities of Chapecó and Piracicaba. The band emerged through a long process of coexistence and experimentation, gradually shaping its own identity. Their sound moves freely across different territories — noise, jazz, Brazilian popular music, and rock — without becoming attached to any single formula.

The music is deeply shaped by context: the time of day, the atmosphere, and the relationship between the members directly influence the outcome. There is a constant sense of listening between them, which makes every live performance take on its own unique form.

Tutu Naná is formed by Akira Fukai (guitar/vocals), Carolina Acaiah (flute/vocals/effects), Fernando Paludo (drums/percussion/effects), and Jivago Del Claro (bass/vocals/guitar).

Their influences widen the field in which the band operates, ranging from Sonic Youth and Pile to Hermeto Pascoal, Moacir Santos, Milton Nascimento, Deerhoof, and Nine Inch Nails. At the same time, the band shares a strong collective instinct to avoid repetition — not only of other artists, but also of themselves. This openness comes from a long process of discovering their own language. Today, the musicality they have built is fluid rather than rigid: the band shifts, changes direction, and constantly tests new paths.

That same feeling is reflected in how the project is perceived by audiences and critics. As Brazilian music journalist Gastão Moreira noted, it is the kind of sound that needs to be heard in order to be understood. Brazilian music blog Trabalho Sujo
described the band as “addicted to extremes,” moving from intense, noisy moments to subtle passages, always carrying a deeply psychedelic atmosphere.

Over the last three years, Tutu Naná has maintained a continuous creative rhythm. In 2025 alone, the band released two new works and performed at important events, including the release show for the album Masculine Assemblage at Centro da Terra, an appearance on the Massari Session, and performances at festivals such as Festival Chama and Festival Bananada.
